Timing, Life's about Timing.

What earlier in the week seemed like a sure thing is now a question of timing. Can we finish before showers/storms arrive? That is the million dollar question. After a couple of rain outs, we can ill afford (that may be the first time I have ever written ill afford) any more cancellations.

Saturday morning, hopefully will see any thunderstorms in Pennsylvania or West Virginia die off before reaching us. If we can avoid that, then we can probably squeak in the games. Saturday afternoon has a good chance of us seeing strong to severe thunderstorms.

Slight Anxiety.....

So this front is coming and it will cross the area on Saturday. My neighborhood Block Party is Saturday from 5 to 9 and I've told my wife, who is active with the Social Committee to go with the Sunday ran date. I'm pretty confident about storms for Saturday afternoon/evening, but will anything be coming in earlier? Could some action from Friday night be in here for Saturday, before noon? It's not out of the question and something I'll look at a little closer on Friday.

By the way, it's been 9 days since the last significant rainfall, so the fields and ground are nice and dry.

Still Looking OK

Saturday still looks good as we should be quite warm with highs in the 80s. Humidity should be up also, so remember to bring plenty of water. We haven't played in a while and the warmth could take a toll.

First Look at May 31st, 2008

For a change, I actually think we'll play. Another front will cross the region over the weekend, but it should do so on Sunday. Saturday may see some late storms, but at this point, we're looking at a warm and humid day with highs in the low to mid 80s. Hallelujah!

No games this weekend

Sure...we have no games for Memorial Day weekend and the weather will be fantastic. Sunshine with highs in the 70s.

See you next week.

Another Late Week Storm

Goood Thursday everybody.

We have another flood watch posted for tonight into Friday as rain will head this way. The heavyrain will probably taper by noon, but if we get too much and if showers persist through the afternoon, we're screwed.

Watch radar and hope for the best, but once again, I have big concerns about the condition of the fields for Saturday morning. (Click on Radar to go to WUSA's Doppler site)

May 17th, first look

Wow, what a storm....some parts of the area had more than 8 inches Sunday into Monday. We had a general 3" to 6" across the metro. Drought? What Drought?

Our weather has turned gorgeous this afternoon and will be nice on Wednesday as well. By Thursday, showers return and Friday is looking like another wet and cool day. That storm will likely be gone by Friday night, but it becomes a game of wondering how fast the fields can dry out.

Updates to follow.

Storm pulls away on Friday afternoon

The big storm is leaving, but there were a few patches of drizzle left. The question posed yesterday dealt with how fast the fields can dry out. While we got some impressive rainfall, the really big stuff was from DC to points south.

The Montgomery County Airpark reported just under an inch of rainfall (0.96") with higher amounts as one headed south. Reagan National's 36 hour total at 2 pm was 3.56" and Andrews AFB had over 4"

I do not know what the fields look like today, but if anybody can spot them today, then we may know if there is any shot at all for tomorrow.

How fast can the fields dry out?

My earlier post today was about as pessimistic as I've ever been in this blog. I think I should offer you a glimmer of hope. But, it depends on how fast the fields can dry and this is where I still have BIG doubts.

We now have a FLOOD WATCH in effect until 11 AM Friday. Good bet that we see some substantial rain overnight into Friday, but we could see things shut off by lunch time. So that could be 20 hours or more of drying. If it were going to be sunny and windy and if we had really good fields, the I'd be more hopeful, but, IMHO, it's still a long shot.

I can't imagine how we'll play on the 10th

As I look for hope this Thursday morning, I find less and less of it, as far as softball goes for this Saturday.

We'll be seeing showers and storms scattered today, but tonight into Friday morning will bring the threat for heavy rainfall. We could see more than 2 inches. Friday will see the rain taper to showers but the amount of drying will be minimal. I also think that Saturday will be mostly cloudy and cool with a passing shower. Temps only reaching the mid 60s.

I wish I had better news, but unless I have something else to update about this weekend, May 10th, I won't post again until next week.

Forecast On Track

Still looking like a somewhat wet for Friday and a dry and nice Saturday. Highs may be more in the 75 range instead of 70, but the question is how much rain on Friday and consequentially, how wet will the fields be on Saturday morning?

Stay tuned....

First Look atr Week 3-May 17

The first 2 weeks were outstanding, from a weather perspective. It's been years since we got offf to a start like this. However, and you knew this was coming. this week features a potentially wet Friday.

Showers may fall as early as Thursday afternoon/evening but will be more widespread Friday. Saturday looks dry with highs around 70.

So, depending on what happens Friday will determine the field maintenance needs for Saturday morning.

I'll keep you posted.
