Looking good for the Games on the 11th

I'm in NY...Long Island to be exact. But the weather for the 11th in DC looks good. Sunny and in the 80s. Have a great playoff and by the way, the Mets actually won the Wednesday night game that I took my son to see.

Outlook for Saturday June 27

We're finally in a summer pattern with highs that will be at or over 90 Thursday through Sunday. That means that the heat may have an impact on Saturday, especially since we really haven't played in HOT weather.

The one "fly in the ointment", is the threat for some thunderstorms on Friday afternoon. Other than that (famous last words), we should be in good shape because the sunny dry weather this week will have our fields in perhaps the best shape of the season.

Saturday AM Update 6/20/09

We did not get the showers/storms from Pennsylvania during the overnight, but I'm looking at
the WUSA 9 WEATHER Regional radar product at 5 AM this morning and there is activity coming out of Ohio Headed toward West Virginia and Pennsylavania. I am concerned that this will arrive before we're done and that we may not get all 3 games in.

Friday Update

We have some drying going on today, but I have fears about tonight. Big Storms near Chicago early this afternoon may make it here during the overnight. If that happens, we're toast. If it doesn't happen, then we still have a threat for showers and storms tomorrow that can fire during the morning. This will be the other possible killer for us.

I suggest that you check Doppler 9000 and the League's Web Site when you get up.

Thursday Rains Were Heavy

2 rounds of storms dropped upwards of 2 inches per rain on Thursday and I do not know if we'll have enough time to dry out. Friday will be warm and that will help, but we might also see some more thunderstroms Friday night. If that happens...we're screwed.

June 20th Outlook

So, we're in the middle of the week and once again rain has been falling. But, the rain today was far lighter than in past weeks and we're also going to get some warmer readings for Thursday and Friday and that will help dry things out. Unfortunately, we'll still have some showers/thunderstorms possible both Thursday and Friday afternoon. So, if the softball gods are kind to us, we won;t see too much more rain between now and Saturday morning.

Keep watching LIVE DOPPLER 9000 for the latest and I'll see you on the field.

Saturday June 13th--Thursday Update

Sorry for the late post, I'm on a new schedule at work and evrything is different.

So far we missed the rain today, but the ground is still rather soggy. If we can dodge the rain bullet tonight and tomorrow, then Saturday actually looks good with sunshine and highs in the low to mid 80s.

The only unknown is how dry will the fields be by game time.

Why do the Weather Gods Hate Us?

We had more torrential rain on Tuesday with 2 rounds of severe thunderstorms. Our Wednesday forecast calls for a chance of thunderstorms which will go up on Thursday. Friday may also see another thunderstorm but rain chances go down a little. Even if we see no rain on Friday, will we be dry enough for Saturday morning?

Tripleheaders Anyone?

As I look at the models this morning, I am shaking my head and wondering when we'll play next. We had some hefty storms last night, we'll get more today, and then an area of low pressure will track across the area on Friday.

I want to play and I'm tired of being the bearer of 'Bad News', but I just don't think our fields will be in any kind of playing shape by Saturday morning, given what I'm looking at for the rest of the work week. As I said yesterday, we need some tarps to cover the fields.

P.S. The long range guidance has us with nice weather for the weekend and then more rain for the middle and latter half of next week, and we got this season off on such a good note....

Saturday, June 6th First Look

Let's see if we can get some games in this week.

A front will approach on Wednesday afternoon bringing us much cooler weather for Thursday and Friday.

As it looks now, (Tuesday morning), we'll have an isolated thudnerstorms today, scatterded thunderstorms on Wednesday afternon and then we'll see if we get more showers or even a period of rain Thursday into Friday morning.

If we can avoid getting too much rain, Saturday looks decent with temps well into the 70s.

Do we have any tarps for the fields? Let's get the MMSL Ground Crew on the ready!

Friday morning update for may 30

I wish I had better news.....
It poured again on Thursday afternoon/evening with some areas in Montgomery county picking up another inch of rain and more thunderstorms will develop this afternoon.

The atmosphere is rich with moisture and today's storms will be heavy rain makers. In fact, The National Weather Service has posted a Flash Flood Watch from noon until 8 PM and we're likely to see another deluge. Friday and deluge are 2 words that we don't like!

If by some miracle the fields are playable, Saturday will be nicer with lower humidity levels and highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Saturday May 30

We had record setting rainfall on Tuesday morning with some areas getting as much as 4 inches of rain across Montgomery county. We didn't do a whole lot of drying out today and more thunderstorms will be possible Thursday and Friday afternoon.

A lot depends on whether or not the fields get any more rain Thursday and/or Friday. I have my concerns that we just won't be able to dry out enough.

As for Saturday, looks like highs will get into the upper 70s, if not lower 80s, with a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.

Another Friday Watching Doppler

We had some respectable rain showers and thunderstorms on Thursday night and the grass is wet in many areas this morning.

We still have a threat for isolated showers and thunderstorms today and tonight and again on Saturday. Rain chances actually go up on Saturday ahead of the front with the Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning the highest threat fro showers and thunderstorms.

So, we watch the Doppler and hope that the storms stay away until after the games. I do suggest an early arrival as some fields might need a little work.

Saturday May 16th. First Look

Well we've had a few beautiful days around here, but the humidity levels and rain chances will be going up. We'll have a slight chance of showers late on Thursday into Thursday night. Friday also has a slight chance of thunderstorms as well as Saturday. Temperatures will be well into the 70s all 3 days.

We could be lucky and stay dry at the fields through Saturday's games or if we happen to get 1 of these storms at the wrong time then there could be an issue.

Right now, I'm thinking we have a 70% chance of playing.

Looking very difficult for tomorrow's games.

The sun is shining brightly this morning at the palatial Bernstein compound in upper Montgomery county. The birds are singing and my dog even came to me when I called her. But, with all of this "goodness", I remain quite pessimistic about tomorrow's games.

We may be teased by sunshine today, but there will be more showers and storms tonight and into Saturday ahead of a cold front that will at least clear us out for Mother's Day.

With all of the rain this week, I am expecting our fields to still be quite soggy and with the anticipated rain tonight, I imagine that will be the "fork" in us.

My role is one of guidance, I don't make the call. However, if I were a "betting man", I know where my cash would be.

One last thought: the long range guidance, while drying us out for the first half of next week, does bring more wet weather here late next week into the weekend.....

Thursday Update

We still have a few more chances for showers and t-storms between now and Saturday morning. Last night's rains were pretty heavy. I managed to mow my own yard and there were some really soft areas....maybe we can get some field spotters out there today.

On the positive side, I am expecting some sunshine this afternoon and again on Friday. However, my overall feeling is that the ground is still kind of wet and we'll be lucky to have dry fields for Saturday.

May 9th....Plenty of Problems

We'll need some luck to play on Saturday. We've had plenty of rain and the ground is water logged. Plus, we'll see more rain tonight and possibly Friday afernoon/evening and then again on Saturday afternoon.

So, will we get enough time for the fields to dry? Right now, I'd give us a 30% chance of playing, but I haven't even seen the fields.

Friday, May 01, 2009

May 2nd, Final Look.

So we haven't had all that much rain today in the southern part of the county where the fields are, and if we are lucky, we won't see too much more tonight.

As for Saturday, expect mostly cloudy conditions for the games with temps in the 60s to around 70 and a slight chance of a shower. I urge you to show up early (assuming the games aren't canceled) because the fields might need a little attention.

Saturday is still possible, but....

We're going to get some showers in here later tonight, Friday and again on Saturday, but that doesn't mean that we're not going to play. It all depends on where and when those showers fall.

It's like a pot of water. Turn up the heat and it boils. You know you'll get bubbles in the pot, but you don't know where those bubbles will pop up at any given time.

So, hang in there and watch the radar and keep the faith!

May 2nd--Looks a Little Iffy....

We started with 2 great weeks of weather, but this Saturday has some challenges. Mainly the threat for thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday morning. This timing really sucks!

Before we lose all hope, let's remember that it's only Wednesday. I'll be providing more updates through the rest of the week.

Saturday April 25 is looking Great!

Hello Sport Fans!

We're expecting a GREAT Saturday with temps well into the 80s for highs. So, if you suck tomorrow, don't balme the weather guy!

Saturday April 25...First Look and Maybe This Will Be All I'll Need....

This past Saturday was, IMHO, the nicest day of the year!

This coming Saturday will also be a winner with temperatures that could be at or even over the 80 degree mark. Actually, it might be a little muggy and since we haven't had any weather like this yet, be sure you're prepared for it.

Bring water and sunscreen and listen to your body.

So, 2 weeks in and so far, so good......

Opening Day 2009 Looks Great

In what has been an up and down spring with some cool, soggy weekends, we're in for an awesome Saturday. The sun will shine and temps will be into the mid 70s for highs.

We did have more than 2 inches of rain from this past storm system, but Saturday will be be the 3rd straight day of sun, so I'm somewhat optimistic that the fields will have had enough time to dry out.

Hopefully, the county will have mowed or we'll have some very slow outfields.

Have fun, stay safe, don't forget the sunscreen and good luck!
