The long range guidance has us with nice weather for the weekend and then more rain for the middle and latter half of next week, and we got this season off on such a good note....

Saturday, June 6th First Look

Let's see if we can get some games in this week.

A front will approach on Wednesday afternoon bringing us much cooler weather for Thursday and Friday.

As it looks now, (Tuesday morning), we'll have an isolated thudnerstorms today, scatterded thunderstorms on Wednesday afternon and then we'll see if we get more showers or even a period of rain Thursday into Friday morning.

If we can avoid getting too much rain, Saturday looks decent with temps well into the 70s.

Do we have any tarps for the fields? But, with all of this "goodness", I remain quite pessimistic about tomorrow's games.

We may be teased by sunshine today, but there will be more showers and storms tonight and into Saturday ahead of a cold front that will at least clear us out for Mother's Day.

With all of the rain this week, I am expecting our fields to still be quite soggy and with the anticipated rain tonight, I imagine that will be the "fork" in us.

My role is one of guidance, I don't make the call. However, if I were a "betting man", I know where my cash would be.

One last thought: the long range guidance, while drying us out for the first half of next week, does bring more wet weather here late next week into the weekend.....

Thursday Update

We still have a few more chances for showers and t-storms between now and Saturday morning. Still looking at hot weather with isolated storms on Thursday and Friday and more widespread storms on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend storms will be more likely in the afternoon and evening, so my biggest concern would be that pesky thunderstorm that could possibly dump some rain on Friday if it hits the wrong spot.

For Saturday, heat and humidity will be up and that could take a toll on the players (I would use athletes, but let's face it, not all players are athletes, take Hoder for example).

June 28, First Look

After a good day on Saturday, weather wise that is, we're in for some heat by the weekend and possibly some thunderstorms. Other than a stray shower one of these afternoons, we're really in good shape. We had a record tying 98 degrees on Saturday afternoon. For the 14th, I'm expecting highs to be in the mid 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. Also, unlike last week, we'll have a front approaching, so there is a slight chance of some shower activity. Usually, the late afternoon is the best time of day for storms, but it's only Monday, and that is just too far away to be too specific for Saturday.

One last thought, June 14th is FLAG DAY, one of my favorite holidays. I think I should offer you a glimmer of hope. But, it depends on how fast the fields can dry and this is where I still have BIG doubts.

We now have a FLOOD WATCH in effect until 11 AM Friday. Good bet that we see some substantial rain overnight into Friday, but we could see things shut off by lunch time. So that could be 20 hours or more of drying. If it were going to be sunny and windy and if we had really good fields, the I'd be more hopeful, but, IMHO, it's still a long shot.

I can't imagine how we'll play on the 10th

As I look for hope this Thursday morning, I find less and less of it, as far as softball goes for this Saturday.

We'll be seeing showers and storms scattered today, but tonight into Friday morning will bring the threat for heavy rainfall. Saturday looks dry with highs around 70.

So, depending on what happens Friday will determine the field maintenance needs for Saturday morning.

I'll keep you posted.

Saturday, April 26th Update

Well, it won't be as pretty as last week, but I believe that the rain/thunderstorms will hold off until mid-afternoon, so we should be in good shape to play.

There is a slight chance for a shower tonight, but the best chances will be northwest of the DC Metro.

Good thing we don't play on Sundays.

See you on the field!

Saturday, April 26th

We should be OK for Saturday as the best chance for showers/storms will be in the afternoon and evening. That on-shore breeze is amazing at "Road D" Beach. The picture was taken Monday afternoon. The tremendous heat that has been across the mid-Atlantic will be leaving and by the weekend, a much kinder and gentler air mass will be around.

I expect a front to clear the area out by the end of the work week, so the weekend will feature highs in the 80s. The pattern that we've seen will start to break down a little toward the end of the week.

While we will have a slight chance for a shower on Friday, the threat goes up on Saturday and especially Sunday.

Right now, we're probably going to be OK, but I want you to know that the threat exists.

Happy Memorial Day

Have a great holiday and I'll be back by Monday or Tuesday.

Some Heat On The Way

No games this weekend, but it looks like we could be into the Upper 80s by Sunday after a cool start to the week. So, if everything works out, we get some mid-week rain and we'll still be OK for Saturday.

Looking Even Better

I need to change my forecast for Saturday.
