Brief Update

Still looking good for Saturday's playoffs. There is a very slight chance of a shower this afternoon and again on Sunday.

As for temps, they now look to be in the upper 80s and not the lower 80s, climbing into the low 90s for Sunday.

You know the drill, pace yourself, stay hydrated, and don't forget the sunscreen. Good luck.

Playoff Weeknd

Hello from Long Island! I may be a few hundred miles away, and I may have managed to get away with my wife for a couple of days while leaving my son at my in-laws, but I know that there is a very important slate of games going on this weekend back in DC.

I also know that it's been much hotter in DC, than in the Hamptons. That on-shore breeze is amazing at "Road D" Beach. The picture was taken Monday afternoon. I know the answer is usually "NO", but wouldn't it have been nice to be on Monday?

Anyway, there is good news for the weekend. The tremendous heat that has been across the mid-Atlantic will be leaving and by the weekend, a much kinder and gentler air mass will be around.

I expect a front to clear the area out by the end of the work week, so the weekend will feature highs in the 80s. Perhaps only in the lower 80s on Saturday. Rain chances also appear to be quite low. Unless that front gets hung up and doesn't get as far south as I'm thinking, the weather should not be a problem.

In case I don' t post again, and I won't if I don't see any changes, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone in the league for all of the fun and camaraderie. We (WUSA) only won twice this year, twice more than in 2006, but I still enjoyed myself.

I hope that we can make some accommodation with start times next June on the first Saturday, so as to make it easier to field a team following "Race For The Cure". I also hope that we can win a few more games.

Good luck to the playoff teams this weekend and I hope that everyone stays healthy, and employed, so that we can do it all again in 2008!

Friday Showers

Some thunderstorms last night, but most rain totals were less than 1/4 of an inch. We're dealing with cooler temperatures and a few showers this Friday afternoon and if the trend for lighter showers holds, then we should be OK for Saturday's games.

A Nice Weekend ahead

Well, it's Thursday and I still feel pretty good about the weekend forecast. I'm expecting showers and thundestorms from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

The only unknown is how much rain will axctually fall on the fields and how much will be left by Saturday morning.

As for Saturday, lower humidity levels and highs in the low 80s will be a great way to finish the month of June.

Better by The Weekend

We're looking at varying degrees of heat and humidity through Friday before a nicer air mass moves in for this weekend.

There will be a threat of showers and storms, especially by late Thursday into Friday as the next cold front approaches. As is the case in these scenraios, we have to worry about how much thunderstorm activity will occur on Friday and what that impace will be for Saturday morning.

Our Fortunes are Looking Better

My last post was pretty optimistic for this Saturday, and this Thursday morning I'm feeling even more confident that we're in for a wonderful Saturday.

A cold front moves through tonight and stalls in northern North Carolina and southern Virginia. These areas will see scattered shower activity over the next couple of days, but we will be far enough north of the front that I anticipate a very pleasant and sunny saturday with highs in the lower 80s. See you on the field!

June 23rd Forecast

What a beautiful Wednesday it was. Not too warm and the humidity really dropped off. I had a nice BBQ dinner on the deck. As I sat down enjoyong the pleasantness of the evening and my food that was the first for my new grill, I got to thinking how damn hot and humid Washington can be for the next 2 to 3 months.

With that being said, the next few days look decent with highs in the 80s to possible lower 90s over the weekend and rain chances stay on the low side. That's not to sy we won't see a shower or two by Saturday, but the overall pattern is a nice one. Enjoy it while it's still around....

Heat on The Way!

Look for highs in the 90s today and Tuesday before we see some mid-week cooling. But, if you think we'll see temps stay down in the 80s for the weekend, think again. We should be back up in that 90 degree neighborhood for Saturday with partly to mostly sunny skies.

I'll have the sunscreen ane the extra ice water with me this wekend.

Still Positive

On Tuesday I mentioned that I expected our unsettled mid-week weather to leave us and that we would be in good shape for Saturday's games. I'm happy to say that my thinking has not changed and that I still expect a nice day with highs getting into the low and possibly mid 80s.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

A Positive Outlook

Weather will be unsettled through mid-week, but after that we begin a drying out and warming trend.

Today and Wednesday should see a decent coverage of thunderstorms. A big area of LOW pressure in the north Atlantic is throwing a little energy back at us and that will aid and abet the development of mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

The good news here is that this storm is expected to pull away toward the weekend and that will allow warmer readings to move. By Saturday, we'll be in the low to mid 80s with just a slight chance of a shower. Sunday and Monday will see highs approaching and then exceeding the 90 degree mark.

So, at this time (11:15AM Tuesday), I'm expecting a decent day for games on the 16th with highs into the 80s.

Some storms on Friday and Friday night

I hate it when we have a chcnce of thunderstorms on Friday. Why can't we have a no-brainer going into the weekend.? Anyway, the heat today, highs well into the 90s will be gone by tomorrow. But the cold front that will bring relief for the weekend, could also bring a thunderstorm or two through tonight.

I'd say that we have a 40% chance of some rain at the fields, so watch Doppler 9000 and if need be, get your butts to the field a little early for some groundskeeping.

Mid-Week Update

Wednesday morning and some cooler air is now blowing in from the north. It ill be gone rather quickly as we warm into the 80s on Thursday and 90s on Friday.

A cold front on Friday night could touch off a shower or thunderstorm and that's about the only thing to be concerned about. Earlier in the week it looked like the heat would hold through the weekend, but this front will come through and that means highs will only be in the mid 80s and not 90s on Saturday.

Monday, June 04, 2007

June 9th looks Hot

A damp start to the week but a ridge of high pressure will build and by Friday, I expect highs to be at or over the 90 degree mark. Friday through the weekend will feature the heat and humidity and a chance for an afternoon or evening thunderstorm. Typical July weather.

Saturday, June 02, 2007

Late Thunder

It finally poured at my house about 11 PM on Friday night. The worst possible time. Looing at radar and rain totals, it appeared that the far northern part of the county was hit but not southern Montgomery. You might want to get out a little early this morning just to be safe.

Friday, June 01, 2007

No Storms Around on Friday

We can't buy a drop lately and today was no exception. The storms were in the mountains and north in Pennsylvania. Have fun and remember to stay cool and wear the sunscreen.

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Hot & Humid Conditions for June 2nd.

Summertime weather to be arond for the first June games. The only "fly in the ointment" will be the chance fo thunderstorms on Friday. You know the drill. If it rains hard on Friday, then Saturday will require some early field work.

Saturday will be Hot & Humid with a chance for afternoon storms with highs around 90. With 2 games to play, hydration and active cooling should be top priorities. Bring extra water for drinking and some cold water just to put on your head for cooling.

Side note: I won't be playing this Saturday. We'll be stressed anyway on the WUSA team because of our involvement with Race for the Cure, but I had my eyebrow split open last night. Nothing that 14 stitches can't take care of. If you'd like to read about my adventures that lead me to the ER, that story is available on wusa9.com.

Improving Outlook

Yesterday, I wrote about the threat of storms for the weekend. Now, it looks like there will still be a slim chance for a whoer or thunderstorm on Friday, with a better chance for storms holding off until Sunday and Monday.

So, I'm expecting a mainly sunny and dry Saturday with highs in the upper 80s. A little above average for this time of year, so plenty of water and sunscreen should also be part of your game gear.

Possible Storms by the Weekend!

Today is Memorial Day. A day to remember those who have served our country and sacrificed so much. Please don't take it for granted.

Now to weather.....we've had hot and dry weather for weeks now and there are signs that we will see some more regular rainfall during June. The pattern that we've seen will start to break down a little toward the end of the week.

While we will have a slight chance for a shower on Friday, the threat goes up on Saturday and especially Sunday.

Right now, we're probably going to be OK, but I want you to know that the threat exists.

Saturday, May 26, 2007

Happy Memorial Day

Have a great holiday and I'll be back by Monday or Tuesday.

Monday, May 21, 2007

Some Heat On The Way

No games this weekend, but it looks like we could be into the Upper 80s by Sunday after a cool start to the week. Also, I think we stay dry through Sunday as well...not good since we really need some rain.

Friday, May 18, 2007

Issues.....

I think we'll play. It won't be a pretty day, but it should be playable. We have some showers around on Friday, but the overall amounts expected are on the light side. .10" to .25" in the heaviest areas. Even Saturday could see a passing shower with highs only in the lower 60s and a brisk northwesterly wind.

Game time temps in the 50s with a breezy and mostly cloudy skies and possible a sprinkle or two......as I said earlier, it won't be pretty, but I think it will be playable.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Big Storms On Wednesday....

We had some big thunderstorms today. We needed the rain. The next two days look cool and unsettled. By Friday, temps will struggle to get into the 60s and we'll likely see a few showers.

The big questions are whether or not the showers will be gone by Saturday morning and how much activity will we see on Friday? Saturday afternoon looks fine with highs in the low 70s.

Stay tuned....

Monday, May 14, 2007

May 19th is looking Good!

While we will have some thunderstorms around on Wednesday, and the threat of a shower or two on Thursday and Friday, the early line on Saturday is sunny and nice with temperatures in the mid 70s.

Friday, May 11, 2007

Should be OK tomorrow.....

We're in decent shape as we head toward the May 12th schedule. Some shower and thunderstorm activity is likely this afternoon and evening, but the most likely plade for that is south and east of DC.

If we played in Charles county or Prince William, that could be problematic, but I think that the activity across Montgomery county today will be very limited, and probably non-existent.

On Saturday, we'll have a chance for more showers and thunderstorms, but that will likely hold off until the mid to late afternoon. So, after all this watching of Doppler 9000, it looks like we'll squeak out another round of games.

If anything changes, I'll post again before tomorrow, otherwsie, I'll see you on the field!

Wednesday, May 09, 2007

Some Good News

I am slightly more optimistic about Saturday. A cold front now looks like it will come through the region overnight Friday and before Saturday morning. That would leave Saturday dry and pleasant with highs in the 70s.

One problem, will we get too much rain on Friday or Friday night? Like I've said earlier this week, it's a wait and see game, but at least we've trended toward the right direction....

Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Some Showers Wednesday -Saturday

I hate weeks like this. There is no definite answer as to whether or not we'll play. I feel confident that we'll have some showers from time to time Wednesday thorough Saturday, but like life, timing is everything. And not just timing, but location, location , location. It's really a game of wait and see.

It's only Tuesday, I hope I can give a more definitive answer later in the week.

Monday, May 07, 2007

A Dry Start to the week. Will it last?

Sunny and cool weather to kick off the week, but it just won't last. We'll see temps warming into the 80 degree range by Thursday and Friday and the next front arrives late Friday into Saturday. It's too early to tell how widespread the showers will be or when, but it's defintiely worth watching.

Friday, May 04, 2007

Still OK, but not that pretty

It looks like our dry weekend forecast is going out the window, but that should not have any real impact on Saturday's make-up games.

Any chance for showers will likely hold off until the middle to latter part of the afternoon and the best chances stay south of DC.

Thursday, May 03, 2007

All is quiet

We're in a nice quiet stretch of weather for the next several days and that should carry through the weekend. A few showers south today and maybe a shower Saturday night, but overall, quiet.

I still think that Saturday, May 5th, features sunshine and pleasant temps around 70 for a high.

Tuesday, May 01, 2007

Nice Weather expected for May 5th

After a few showers tonight into Wednesday, the rest of the week will be quiet. This Saturday, for the make-up games, I expect sunshine with highs around 70. Nothing wrong with that...

Unless things change, I probably won't post until next week.

Hasta La Vista!

It was a Good day!

We had a decent Saturday after some Friday rainfall. Fortunately the rain wasn't too heavy and, in spite of some wet spots, it was a succesful day. In fact, my team, WUSA, won our first game of the season, and our first game since 2005. It felt good.

While most of us are off until May 12th, a few games did not get played on Saturday and will be made up this weekend.

Right now, there does not appear to be any weather problems and highs are expected to be in the 70 - 75 range.

Friday, April 27, 2007

Not Too Bad After All.....

We stayed cool today and that was a good thing. The severe thunderstorms affected SE Virginia and we'll still only be dealing with a few showers through this evening. I stand by my earlier reccommendation to arrive early and have some rakes and cat litter to get the fields in the best condition possible.

Friday, and it's a wet morning

Showers and a few thunderstorms have been falling since last night. Rain is generally a good thing. It's part of the whole life cycle and stuff. But when we have softball on Saturday moring, "Friday rain" is not welcome.

We will see some more shower and thunderstorm activity today that could last into this evening. Unfortunately, some of the storms could have some additional heavy rainfall. Saturday looks pretty good with temps near 70, although it will be a little breezy.

Be prepared to show up early and work the fields on Saturday morning. Have a few bags of Cat Litter also, for the worst areas.

Storms on Friday, Better on Saturday

We're in this wait and see mode right now. The showers have been very sporadic the last couple of days and the "bigger show" moves in on Friday. At some point on Friday , we will see some showers and thunderstorms push through. I feel pretty confident about that. (We'll actually see showers starting Thursday night as a warm front pushes through.)

The only concern is if the showers are too late and too heavy. If I had to bet, I'd say that we're on for Saturday with highs around 70 degrees. Until then, I'll be watching the Doppler....

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

WIll we be dry enough for Saturday?

I feel pretty good about the prospects for a nice weekend around here. As I wrote yesterday, getting there will be the challenge. We'll have on and off shower and thunderstorm chances through Friday.

My concern is that we could get some heavier showers and/or thunderstorms late on Friday that would leave things wet and then we might not have enough time for things to dry out for Saturday morning.

I'll keep you posted.....

Monday, April 23, 2007

Next weekend looks OK, but getting there will have same problems

What a superb weekend to kick off the season. Any complaints? I don't think so. Nezt weekend looks decent too. Highs (as of Monday AM) look to be around 70.

BUT....you knww that was coming...we have rain chances from Tuesday afternoon/evening on and off through Friday. So, if everything works out, we get some mid-week rain and we'll still be OK for Saturday.

Thursday, April 19, 2007

Looking Even Better

I need to change my forecast for Saturday. Originally I had said that highs would be in the upper 60s. Now, I'm thinking more like lower 70s. It should be a great day.

Also, don't forget the sunscreen. A sunny day like I expect with many people still pasty white, there will be a high sunburn potential.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Looking Good for Saturday

It sure has been one crappy month! Cold and windy, and really wet this past weekend.

But, we're looking good for Opening Day on the 21st!

We will have a chance for more showers on Thursday, but Saturday will have sunshine with morning lows in the 40s and afternoon highs reaching the Upper 60s.

I just hope that the fields can get mowed in time, but that's a county issue.
